Description of Training Provider

Adult education department of area vocational-technical school.

Program Description

Students learn the basics of interpreting machine drawings.  Topics include line and symbol identification, interpreting one, tow and three view drawings, section and auxiliary views, and machinging operations.  Shop math skills including the use of decimal, fractional, and metic systems are also covered.  GD&T instruction includes teaching participants to read, interpret, and translate design requirements in accordance with standards.  The program will cover fundamentals and rules, form tolerances for individual features (flatness, straightness, circularity, cylindricality, orientation tolerances, datums, position and concentricity).  This program develops an understanding of what metals are, their composition and properties, while concentrating on steel, including carbon, alloy and tool steels, information on microstructures, nonferous metals, and methods of making shapes is given. The program reviews procedures needed to determine chemical analysis, hardness and tensile properties.  The program includes basic CNC machine set-up and operation, cutting, tool geomertry, measuring instruments and usage, math and technial drawing.  This program is comprised of a series of classes 5334 - Blueprint Reading-Machining I, 5335 - Blueprint Reading-Machining II, 5339 - Basic Metallurgy, 5360 - CNC G-Code, 5371 - CNC-Lathe, 5373 CNC Mill.
