Description of Training Provider
A career and technical school accredited by Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.
Program Description
The objective of the 160- CDL Class A course is to prepare the individual with the general knowledge and skills required to pass the Department of Transportation License exam to acquire their commercial drivers license in the state of Pennsylvania and meet the requirements for the ELDT mandated by the FMSCA. The program will consist of one week of classroom training to obtain their class A general knowledge with air brakes endorsements. Then the individuals will receive three weeks of road and range training covering all aspects of safe operation of a commercial motorized vehicle. Upon completion of the program each individual will have obtained the skills and knowledge necessary to pass their state exam and gain employment in the transportation industry with a national, regions, or local employer.
Skills & Competencies
Identify and understand in cab instructions and usage, air brake check, properly perform vehicle inspections, execute basic shifting and gear selection, identify and understand cargo handling and safety, perform effective visual search of road and traffic conditions, execute braking techniques, understand proper speed/space management, safely couple and uncouple a trailer, proper right/left hand turning procedures, proper lane changes, properly approach and travel through intersections, properly use on/off ramps, properly make freeway lane changes, properly slows speed for curves/turns in road, understands and use proper gear selection for upgrades/downgrades, execute the crossing of a railroad tracks, understand and identify DOT regulations, identify vehicle preventive maintenance, identify and perform emergency breakdown procedures, properly execute forward measure stop, properly execute 100 feet of straight line backing, properly execute alley dock, properly execute parallel parking, safely couple and uncouple trailer.
