Penn State World Campus is the second largest campus of the Pennsylvania State University with more than 20,000 students. It provides online access to Penn State education, offering more than 175 programs developed and taugh by Penn State faculty.
Program Description
Organizations of all kinds — corporations, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, etc. — depend on their human resources staff to not only match employees with the jobs for which they are best suited, but to enhance their productivity and limit turnover. Similarly, the labor movement requires highly educated staff to best represent the interests of their members, particularly in global markets that have created new challenges for all of the labor movement’s stakeholders.
The Bachelor of Science in Labor and Human Resources, offered online through Penn state World Campus, is designed for those who wish to learn about human resources from a more quantitative perspective.
Offering two areas of specialization - Human Resources or Labor and Employment Relations – it prepares graduates for various positions in human resources, recruitment, placement management, compensation and benefits, and other labor environments, including positions such as:
human resources generalist
benefits and compensation specialist
staffing and placement specialist
training and development specialist
employee recruiter
labor relation specialist
union organizer/negotiator
arbitrator

Skills & Competencies
Bachelors Degree Skills and Competencies Taught: Job analysis for employee compensation and benefit choices; managing, training and employing in a global market place; accounting for the company; training and development for the needs of the company and employee professional development; managing in a diverse workforce; using of statistics for decision-making; understanding the history and ethics of work; relating the relationship of management to employees; analyzing the economics of the company in relation to the employees; making policy after analyzing the economy in relation to the workplace.
