Program Description
The objective of The Commercial Truck Driving Program is to prepare the individual with the general knowledge and skills required to pass the PA Department of Transportation License Exam. Each individual will receive the following endorsements: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles and Tanker. Doubles/Triples, and Hazmat are available but optional. Each individual will receive 64 hours of Driver Safety and Procedures and 200 hours of road and range training that will prepare them for the PA DOT skills exam. Upon successful completion of the 264 hour program the individual will have obtained the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the PA DOT requirement of a Class A License with General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles and Tanker Endorsements. Additional Doubles/Triples and Hazmat endorsements are optional. Upon successful completion individual will have the skills for employment with National, Regional and Local Employers. Students will test for their Class A CDL License upon completion of their training program. Program is offered Full Time weekdays Monday through Friday and Part Time Weekends Only Saturday and Sunday.
Skills & Competencies
Identify/understand in cab instruments and usage, air brake check, properly perform vehicle inspections, execute basic shifting and gear selection, identify and understand cargo handling and safety, perform effective visual search, execute braking techniques, understand proper speed/space management, safely couple and uncouple a trailer, proper merging, proper right/left turning, proper lane changing, proper curve techniques, proper techniques for intersections, railroads, uphill and downhill driving. Understand and identify DOT regulations, identify vehicle preventative maintenance, identify and perform emergency situation procedures, execute forward measure stops, 100 feet straight line backing, alley dock, parallel parking. Program will include knowledge in flatbed, load securement and weight distribution, doubles/tankers. At the end of the training, students then test for their Class A CDL License.
