Program Description

Fundamentals of Welding with Intermediate Shielded Metal Arc Welding: This course is designed to provide necessary knowledge and skills for an entry-level welder. Oxy-fuel, gas tungsten arc (TIG), Gas Metal Arc (MIG), Shielded Metal Arc (Stick) processes are taught with theory and hands-on practice. Additional lectures are given on basic metallurgy, welding codes, non-destructive examination, and welding symbols. Students will learn advanced skills in Shielded Metal Arc process (Stick). Emphasis will be placed on the student's ability to prepare material and perform welding of fillet and groove welds in carbon steel using E7018 electrodes in all positions. Practice is geared toward Structural Welding Code vertical and overhead tests. Students will have the opportunity to take the qualification test.

Skills & Competencies

Students will learn Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick) with 7018 electrodes in all positions and various joint configurations on carbon steel plate.
