Description of Training Provider
SCTC provides secondary and post-secondary technical training programs and is approved by the PA Dept. of Education, The PA Board of Nursing, and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Program Description
The course provides students with theoretical and practical training in the masonry field. The student will learn brick and block-laying fundamentals such as mortar mixing, use of masonry saw, scaffold building, blueprint reading, and estimating. Brick paving, fireplace construction, stone masonry, and the pouring and finishing of concrete are also covered.
Skills & Competencies
Skills taught include: proper use of hand and power tools, proper installation of scaffolding, blueprint reading, brick and block laying, chimney, fireplace, and arch construction, mortar selection and mixing, and estimating.
