Description of Training Provider

Program Description

This traditional nurse aide program is designed to develop sensitivity and competence in the basic tasks required to care for patients or residents in a variety of healthcare facilities. Its purpose is to provide the student with a basic level of knowledge and skills needed to care for patients, residents, or clients as set forth by the nursing profession and regulated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The 125-hour certificate program includes 40 hours of theory, 35 hours of lab, and 50 hours of clinical experience and is completed in 18 ½ days. Students completing this program will receive a Pennsylvania Department of Education accredited certificate from the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit. They will be eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam administered by Credentia to enroll in the Nurse Aide Registry for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
 

Skills & Competencies

1.    Provide care to elderly and disabled individuals, assist patients with everyday activities, and overall personal care.
2.    Assist with dietary accommodations including administration of ordered supplements
3.    Provide quality dementia care
4.    Take and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rate, as directed by medical or nursing staff
5.    Document activities of daily living in electronic medical records
6.    Assist patients with bedpans and urinals
7.    Observe and report patient responses to changes in medications
8.    Perform basic operation of medical equipment
9.    Provide high levels of care and maintain high standards in sanitation and safety
10.  Comply with accepted health care guidelines.
11. Provide excellent customer service to patients and their family members.
12. Demonstrate skillful communication
13. Participate in ongoing educational training
14. Provide daily living tasks to enhance quality of life for elderly patients while following infection control procedures
15. Incorporate critical thinking in meeting health needs of patients.
