Program Description

Point Park University is the only Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)-approved institution in Pennsylvania that offers the American Board for the Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) program.

ABCTE is a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing highly qualified professionals to enter the classroom through state-approved alternative teacher certificate program.

The program is designed to enroll candidates who have bachelor's degrees but are not certified to teach in Pennsylvania. The program includes both online coursework and an apprentice-style mentorship component in the classroom that differs from traditional teacher certification programs. Candidates can expect to finish the program within one year.

Skills & Competencies

At the completion of this program, graduates will have fulfilled the requirements to become a certified teacher in the state of Pennsylvania.
