Program Description

Since its creation in 1977, the Lackawanna College Police Academy has diligently trained generations of law enforcement professionals. Lackawanna is the first and continues to be the only private college in northeastern Pennsylvania authorized to provide Municipal Police Officers Basic Training, commonly referred to in Pennsylvania as ACT 120 training, which is the state-regulated municipal police basic training program. The Lackawanna College Police Academy is certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) in Harrisburg, Pa., to offer the Municipal Police Basic Training Program at the College’s Scranton Campus and Hazleton Center. In addition, Lackawanna College Police Academy also offers the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Mandatory In-Service training (ACT 180) throughout northeastern Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Municipal Police Basic Training Program is required training for all municipal police officers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This program recently underwent a complete revision, from 919 hours to 946 hours.
