Workforce Development, non-credit division of Butler County Community College. Program offerings include Certificate Programs and Professional Education for CEUs or licensing renewal.

Program Description

This 184 hour course will provide basic training in all aspects of emergency medical care that an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is permitted to provide throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This course will follow the current National Education Standard for the Emergency Medical Technician. The 120-hour lecture component is online and the 64-hour lab component has day and evening session availability.

Skills & Competencies

This 184 hour course will provide basic training in all aspects of emergency medical care that an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is permitted to provide throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This course will follow the current National Education Standard for the Emergency Medical Technician. Students will learn: Basic Life Support (CPR), Airway Management and Maneuvers, Patient Assessment, Medication Administration, Bleeding Control, Soft Tissue Injury Management, Lifting and Moving of patients, Vital Signs, Resuscitation, AED use, CPAP, Spinal Motion Restriction Procedures, Patient Extrication from Vehicles, HAZMAT Awareness, National Incident Management Systems Courses 100, 200, 700, and 800. Pediatric Safe Transport, Documentation and Communication as related to public safety / patient care, Assisting with ALS skills, Pediatric Assessment, Neonatal Resuscitation, Chest and Abdominal Injury Management, Impaled Object Management, Trauma Assessment, Hip and Pelvis Stabilization, Helmet and Equipment Removal, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Management, Management of patients experiencing Medical Emergencies.
