Program Description

This 84-hour blended learning class introduces students to automated machining operations or CNC, computer numerical control technology. By the end of this class students are able to follow setup sheets, perform shop math calculations, work with precision measurements and properly use measuring instruments. Students also set-up and complete projects on CNC machines, perform basic and advanced machining operations on automated equipment, and make decisions to ensure that work quality is maintained. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for employment in entry-level positions such as machine setup and operation. This training teaches attention to detail, the ability to work to close tolerances (+/- .0002), the skills needed to improve mechanical aptitude, and how to solve mechanical challenges by working through logical steps. Shop safety, and good shop work practices, including routine machine shop maintenance activities, are also covered. The tuition for this class covers both the textbook and lab fees. Online resources and curriculum are made available. This component of the program is designed to train students for entry-level work as a CNC machine operator.
