Description of Training Provider
Lackawanna College is accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Program Description
The cyber security associate degree program can be considered a computer science degree with an emphasis on security. Students will study a holistic cyber security curriculum that ensures they obtain the necessary skills to combat cyber threats and meet workforce demands. Through the diverse curriculum offered in this program, students will learn how cyber security is implemented in career-related skills like operating systems, networking, programming and databases.
In addition to online courses, students in the cyber security program are also required to complete an internship to earn their degrees. Through internships, students will gain hands-on experience in the cyber security field that will make them more capable of handling whatever their future careers require soon after they graduate. Students in this program will also learn to leverage free open source software and its associated documentation, rather than rely solely on purchasing textbooks and software licenses.
Our program was carefully constructed for future Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) program compliance. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Security Agency (NSA) jointly sponsor the CAE and designate specific colleges and universities as CAE members based on their close alignment to cyber security-related knowledge units (KUs).
Skills & Competencies
Our cyber security program will cover various computer science topics that focus on cyber security. In this degree program, students will learn how to reduce the risk of cyber-attacks and other threats. Cyber security can be a challenging, fast-paced field, and our students are given an education that will help prepare them to tackle this problem that greatly impacts our society today.
With the emergence of information technology in our modern world, cyber security expertise is a highly desired talent. This exciting and cutting-edge field will prepare the student for top quality job opportunities in both the public and private sector. Lackawanna College has devised a cyber security curriculum that ensures our graduates will obtain the necessary skills to meet the workforce demand.
Cyber security students will learn how to:
Interpret the fundamental concepts and techniques of cyber security.
Analyze cyber security measures for all the major computer science components which include operating systems, networks, databases, programming, and information assurance.
Apply coursework concepts to hands-on laboratory exercises in order to demonstrate cyber security skills.
Recognize the ethical and moral responsibilities during the practice of cyber security.
