Program Description
The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree prepares individuals for careers in professional counseling settings such as community mental health, human service agencies, college and university counseling centers, and residential treatment facilities. The curriculum provides a blend of counselor training experiences designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to become a professional counselor. Graduates are prepared to pursue National Counselor Certification (NCC) and licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC).
Skills & Competencies
All students complete a minimum of 60 semester hours for the degree. The curriculum is based on the following eight core counselor competency areas:
1.Core Professional Counselor Knowledge and Skills
2. Clinical Mental Health Counselor Professional Orientation
3. Clinical Mental Health Counseling Theory and Skills
4. Clinical Mental Health Case Conceptualization and Mental Health Service Delivery
5. Assessment of Mental and Emotional Disorders and Conditions
6. Treatment of Mental and Emotional Disorders and Conditions
7. Professional and Ethical Practice 8.Reflective Learning
