Program Description
The Industrial Maintenance program is a PA State registered pre-apprenticeship program and introduces participants to the fundamental concepts and hands-on skills required by electro-mechanical technicians in manufacturing and other equipment-reliant industries. It consists of 12-16 weeks of in-person, online, or a hybrid schedule of instruction (online and in-person), up to 24 hours per week, to be supplemented by in-person or virtual class visits to factory & shop locations of potential employers. Employment preparation is included in the coursework including resume assistance and interview preparation. Program graduates will work with the Career Coach for job placement. Topics include Safety, Shop Math, Measurement, Blueprint Reading, Basic Electricity (AC/DC Circuits), Electrical Fabrication, Mechanical Fabrication, Hydraulic & Pneumatic Basics and Troubleshooting, and Electric Relay Control concepts and applied practice. Students earn OSHA10 & Forklift Safety certifications. Students will perform hands-on projects during the training program. This program takes place at The Center for Advanced Technologies (CAT) at the BCCC Bristol Campus.
Skills & Competencies
Workplace skills required to be successful in the manufacturing environment.
Safety, including OSHA 10 certification and Forklift training and certification.
Shop math including fractions and use of decimal math in shops, add and subtract fractions, convert to decimal, converting metric/English back and forth.
Define measurement types, basic, semi precision and precision, tolerance, GD&T

Equipment Maintenance
Basic Electricity (AC/DC Circuits): fundamentals of electricity, electrical measurements, circuit analysis, inductance and capacitance, combination circuits and transformers.
Electrical Fabrication: introduction to electrical system wiring, residential wiring system components, service connection and circuit protection
Mechanical Fabrication: threaded fasteners, wrenches, pneumatic/hydraulic system fabrication, screwdrivers, pliers & locking devices, mallets and non-threaded fasteners, torque wrenches, portable power tools.
