COTA - Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Job Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant promotes optimal physical function, comfort, and quality of life and prevents progression of deformity through administration of medically prescribed occupational therapy services under the direction of the occupational therapist.
ESSENTIAL RESULTS AND COMPETENCIES:
1.
DELIVERS QUALITY CARE
By providing identified interventions and monitoring client's responses under the direction of an occupational therapist.
2.
RECORDS PATIENT INFORMATION
By documenting, dating, and authenticating all client/patient information as per department policy, completing daily statistics, completing all documentation needed for reimbursement, reviewing and updating patient/client documentation as per facility policy, providing written updates to other staff, physicians, families under the direction of the OT
3.
PROVIDES PATIENT/CLIENTS WITH QUALITY POSITIONING, FUNCTION AND COMFORT
Assessing wheelchair/seating needs, consulting with other staff, performing wheelchair repairs/modifications, recommending new/alternative wheelchair supports/equipment, serving as resource person to clients, families, staff regarding wheelchair/seating needs.
4.
DEVELOPS AND ENHANCES PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
By attending department in-services, participating in continuing education, providing in-services/teaching to staff, patient/clients, families, other health care professionals, supervising students/volunteers, independently reviewing current literature.
5.
DEVELOPS LEADERSHIP SKILLS
By assisting with supervision of appropriate staff, assisting with development of schedules and programs, proposing and problem solving alternative approaches, providing input for the growth of others.
6.
EDUCATES STAFF, STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS
By supervising educational experiences as requested and providing instruction with verbal and written feedback as appropriate.
7.
MAINTAINS CONFIDENTIALITY AND PROTECTS CLIENT INFORMATION
By securing all information in confidential space, following facility confidentiality policy.
8.
PROMOTES A SAFE AND CLEAN WORK ENVIRONMENT
By ensuring good operation of all equipment, assisting with cleaning/housekeeping of department, following facility policies and procedures for infection control and life safety, following standards for proper body mechanics during all activities.
9.
CONTRIBUTES TO THE TEAM EFFORT
By embracing change to achieve common goals, demonstrating and promoting a positive work environment, contributing to the development of others. By attending and actively participating in staff meetings, serving as representative of the Wheelchair and Seating department, serving as liaison between therapy departments and internal/external contacts, serving as resource person for staff, clients, families, community members, participating in departmental and GS events/activities which are supportive of our mission.
10.
COMPLIES WITH GOVERNMENTAL LEGAL AND PROFESSIONAL GUIDELINES/REQUIREMENTS
By understanding and adhering to current standards of practice for their discipline and guides for professional conduct including the code of ethics and practice guidelines established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Minimum Education Requirements: Graduate of an accredited COTA program or an associates' degree.
Minimum Experience Requirements: Minimum of one year experience in home health or experience in setting equal to requirements of an acute care setting.
Minimum License Requirements: Current licensure to practice as a COTA in Pennsylvania by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. Valid CPR certification at hire or within first 90 days of employment and valid driver's license required.
