Job Summary
Carnegie Mellon University's Tax Department is searching for an Accountant. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing critical support by ensuring that the University is in compliance with federal, state and local tax laws. You will be responsible for the preparation of the day-to-day tasks within the Tax Department to ensure that the University is meeting compliance requirements and to protect the University's tax exempt status.
Core responsibilities will include:
To prepare all work papers and schedules required for the accurate preparation and review of the University's Form 990 and 990-T, as well as all other Form 990's prepared by the University Tax Department.
To prepare all monthly, quarterly and yearly tax filings, which include but are not limited to:
PA/CA/NY sales tax returns
City of Pittsburgh Parking Tax returns
City of Pittsburgh Amusement Tax return
Personal property and real estate tax filings
Maintain all daily tax work, which include but are not limited to:
Foreign national treaty benefits review
Processing of non-qualified scholarship, non-employee prize/award and non-employee gift forms
Review of non-employee expense reports to ensure they are in compliance with the University's Business and Travel Expense Policy
Work directly with the Tax Analyst to ensure that all University tax filings are accurate and filed timely
Be a resource for the campus community to reach out to when they have questions regarding any of the Tax Department functions
Assist in implementing any University initiatives into the Tax Department
You should have a willingness to learn and face challenges, excellent oral presentation and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management.
