JOB TITLE: Wheel Operator

REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Production

12 hour  shift $19.56 plus 50 cent shift differential.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Employee will be responsible for maximizing the productivity of the assigned line.  Will troubleshoot, repair and improve all process equipment of the line.  Will participate in the installation of new equipment and process improvements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for maintenance and operation of blow-molding equipment and downstream equipment on assigned line.
  • Make process adjustments to product based on statistical data and product quality.
  • Conduct periodic quality inspection of product.
  • Document all downtime and methods used to get the line operational again.
  • Must perform the following duties: color changes, screen changes, change blow needles, set the depth of a reamer, make minor adjustments to the label basket, change trimmer buckets, hang molds, assist in a complete line changeover including downstream equipment, perform preventive maintenance on all line equipment, change grinder blades, establish and document blender weights for set-up, make minor program changes, change filters in the vacuum system, change knockout rods, clean molds and mold vents, replace air and water hoses, rebuild blow cylinders, replace paddles on conveyors, clean vacuum on trimmer, clean glue heads on box machine, troubleshoot and fill oiler on process equipment.
  • Relieve Packaging Specialists for breaks.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with line workers to foster teamwork and proper understanding of requirements [Recurrent Training].
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities as required.
  • Follow all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Train fellow employees as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of electricity, hydraulics and pneumatics preferred.
  • Knowledge of SPC (Statistical Process Control)
  • Knowledge of standard bolt sizing.
  • Must be able to use standard and metric measuring equipment.
  • Must possess basic troubleshooting skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 – 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
