Job Summary:

A Material Handler is commonly expected to know how to make inventory transfers in computer, and will move materials (such as raw materials, finished product, etc.) in shipping areas using electric, gas, propane, or diesel forklift tractor, and various overhead and lifting cranes. Works daily to ensure assigned areas of responsibility are working with risk lowered to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) specifically in an effort to achieve ZERO HARM so no injuries, illness or negative impact occurs to employees, property, the environment or the community.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of safety equipment and safety procedures for shipping/receiving operations
  • Always maintains good housekeeping/neat work area
  • Valid forklift operator's license
  • Overhead crane certification
  • Loads and unloads material
  • Stores material in proper locations
  • Makes sub-inventory transfers in computer system
  • Obtains pick slips, runs ship confirms, and bills of lading
  • Monitors inventory levels by running reports and determining discrepancies
  • Empties and monitors scrap dumpsters; contacts scrap dealer when needed
  • Stages rod at appropriate machines
  • Performs intercompany transfers as requested by sales from other plants
  • Runs cycle count reports
  • Cycle counts material
  • Enters cycle count quantities
  • Works with the sales and traffic department to minimize problems
  • Handles other duties as assigned within the shipping department as well as the production areas
  • Loads and bands material as required
  • Visually checks quality of finished product
  • Works with production department as needed
  • Trains others as needed

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent; ability to complete simple forms and understand simple written instructions. Ability to perform simple arithmetic skills involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals. An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable. 

Experience:

A minimum of two (2) years’ forklift and crane operational experience required in heavy material handling and moving responsibilities.

 

Salary Start Rate: $18.50 – 23.75 depending on experience plus bi-weekly Team-Share Production Incentive”.
