Job Summary

The Receiving Team Leader, “Receiving Team Lead”, oversees a group of warehouse workers who offloads, stages, confirms, and records inbound shipments.  The team lead prepares items for receipt and unloads inbound trucks.   This team leader is also responsible for overseeing the inter-departmental transport of materials to in-line operations.   The team leader is considered a working associate with limited authority for personnel actions that validates and coordinates the work of others on a logistics support team. This team leader suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other warehouse associate members and has thorough knowledge of warehouse transactional processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates activities of assigned workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming receipts and preparing items for proper put away into the warehouse.
  • Supports compliance for receiving notices, verifies counts versus bills of lading quantities, verifies quality of products, and maintains other records to determine receiving priorities, work assignments, and receiving methods required to meet receipt schedules, utilizing knowledge of receiving procedures, and inbound routes.
  • Oversees incoming receiving activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments to be received by warehouse.
  • Continuously inspects receiving operations to ensure compliance with safety, product / raw material specifications & quality, inbound seals for loaded containers, and truck doors.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
  • Directs movement of receipts to assigned storage work zones (rack and bulk) from receiving stage work areas and inbound docks.
  • Compiles records of any unprocessed receipts for the receiving period.
  • Trains new warehouse associates.
  • Respond to complaints and queries concerning inventories and products
  • Carry out inventory control to ensure inventories are at optimal levels and accuracy.
  • Report and analyze data and present results to the Receiving Supervisor and Warehouse Manager as necessary
  • Ensure compliance of the distribution center operations with all company policies as well as federal, state and location laws.
  • Spends at least 80% of time on the warehouse floor.
  • Will perform other job tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively direct, coach, and train a small group of warehouse operators under the direction of the Receiving Supervisor.
  • At least 4 to 7 years of experience leading a team of shipping & receiving operators
  • At least 10 years of experience as a Forklift operator
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a logistics environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in Inventory Control principles and practices.
  • Prefer experience in asset protection / inventory protection.
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of the organization, including internal and external customers.
  • Planning, decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment, lead and motivate team members.
