SUMMARY Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on various shipyard equipment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. 

  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment. 
  • Verifies and insures conformance to specifications and quality. 
  • Prepare job site for work. 
  • Use, understand, and be able to explain lock-out and tag-out procedures. 
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and maintenance requests as needed. 
  • Performs repairs as needed to reduce backlog of jobs. 
  • Direct lower level mechanics with repairs. 
  • Drive and operate fuel trucks, forklifts, and service vehicles. 
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None. 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required; 

Must have clear and demonstrated ability to recognize, name, and use basic hand tools. Must understand 

both standard and metric system and be able to perform simple conversions without a calculator. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

REASONING ABILITY 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand (minimum of two hours while conducting regular work duties), walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on board ships. Must be able to crawl into tanks and/or small spaces. The employee will frequently use both hands to grasp rails while climbing, to hold and carry tools and equipment, to operate tools and machinery. The employee must be able to respond to voice or visual commands. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds on a consistent (daily) basis. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: wet or humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places; exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold or extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee must be able to work in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

SAFETY - Must comply with Company safety rules and OSHA standards. Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment as prescribed under OSHA standards.
