JOB DESCRIPTION

PLANT: Allenport Plant

CLASSIFICATION: Maintenance Technician

SUPERVISION: Plant Manager

1.      Receives daily and ongoing instructions from supervision covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation and inspection work assignments to be attended on an immediate and long-term basis.

2.      Inspects all electrical and mechanical equipment in the facility on a regular and routine basis checking motor bearings, pump components, lubrication, condition of wiring, wear, signs of failure, need for adjustment, adherence to internal operating protocols, and similar factors; follow up on input from operating crew members when complaints or observations are voiced.

3.      Diagnose failures and/or preventative maintenance requirements and determine the most efficient methodology for repairing and/or correcting unsatisfactory performance to minimize production delays and service to customers.

4.      Advise management when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or harmful effect on production and to preserve an optimal level of safety to plant personnel.

5.      Interpret and analyze drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and trace electrical circuits, to determine material and replacement needs, and to select an optimal approach to “troubleshooting” and repair projects.

6.      Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains and lubricates electrical and mechanical equipment in accordance with sound safety practices.

7.      Adjusts equipment for proper operating characteristics.

8.      Makes both mechanical and electrical repairs to cranes.

9.      Operates simple machine tools such as drill press, pipe threading machine, power saw and other such units to conduct maintenance projects.

10.  Perform intermediate welding to repair or install equipment and facility updating.

11.  Erects scaffolds and performs simple rigging as necessary.

12.  Provide input to management in the purchase of tools and components best suited to complete maintenance projects; communicate with vendors and suppliers to communicate and/or define needs.

13.  Operate fork lift, sweeper and other plant mobile equipment.

14.  Learn Operating Technician job duties and fill-in as required.

15.  Provide assistance and support to Operating Technicians, outside contractors, and/or engineering support personnel assigned to repair, replace or otherwise maintain operational efficiency of plant.

16.  Sweep and clean work area and common areas regularly to maintain facility in a clean, safe and presentable manner and to support Laborer activities.

17.  Perform other related tasks associated with performing general maintenance services to the plant and requiring certification of several journeyman skills.
