A Brief Overview

The Research Navigator, Frontier Programs will support the Frontier Programs Research Acceleration workstream. This individual will act as a concierge resource for investigators engaged in innovative research to guide and facilitate interactions with the full range of preclinical and clinical research resources at the Research Institute. The Navigator will have two primary areas of focus: 1) serving as an advocate for PIs and research staff to facilitate their interactions with research administrative resources while conducting research (primarily responsive); and 2) coordinating process improvements that are identified in the course of interacting with investigators (primarily proactive). This person is expected to be knowledgeable on the services and key contacts for all research administration departments that support preclinical and clinical research. Knowledge of key faculty, departmental and hospital organizational structure, and key contacts are also expected. In-depth experience in IRB submissions and study start-up processes is also required for this position.

This job will also serve as a liaison and spokesperson for the Research Institute to both internal and external scientific communities by participating in a variety of workshops, educational sessions, community-based activities, etc. This person is expected to be fully knowledgeable on the services and key contacts for all research administration departments that support clinical research and for helping investigators transition from translational research into early phase clinical studies. Knowledge of key faculty, departmental and hospital organizational structure, and key contacts are also expected.

What you will do
1. Acts as a primary resource in guiding an investigator or their team through the clinical research process, throughout the life cycle of the study. Acts as an advocate for researchers and their experiences at the Research Institute. Responds to requests to answer questions and/or solve problems or administrative challenges, while respecting identified roles and responsibilities for research staff and administrative staff. Must be able to communicate effectively.
2. Identifies, develops, and maintains relationships with key contacts from Research Administration Offices in order to help facilitate processes and investigators' interactions within the Research Institute. Knows who to contact and where to seek answers when investigators have questions about preparing grant proposals, financial management, safety, IRB, FDA, study implementation, data acquisition and analysis, tech transfer, etc. Additionally, assists faculty with a broad range of administrative topics (i.e. Human Resources, EPIC process flows, and Information Systems-related cases). Follows up with the appropriate CHOP staff to ensure the needs of the investigator are met. Additional follow ups with the investigator to ensure satisfactory response to queries.
3. Participates in on-boarding activities for new faculty hires, and also trainees and existing faculty interested in pursuing investigator-initiated research through a variety of orientation and on-going educational activities. Develops and delivers relevant presentations for such activities.
4. Maintains knowledge of local, state, and federal operational and regulatory procedures that might accelerate a protocol's implementation and subject accrual. Helps research administration disseminate new/updated information to research community. Additionally, acts as a critical information resource to investigators. Support project management of new initiatives to streamline business processes, eliminate non-value-added costs, reduce complexity, and champion productivity improvement. Partner with Research Institute leaders and researchers to optimize operational performance and results. This role will develop excellent collaborative and supportive working relationships with physicians, administrators, and staff.
5. Proactively identifies areas in need of process improvement on a global Research Institute scale. Works with relevant research administration staff to develop and implement new research program processes in order to address common queries and/or increase efficiency.
6. Provides strategic planning expertise including: Conducts exploratory analysis (i.e. contextual inquiry, interviews, and data analysis) in order to facilitate dialogue and help develop and prioritize strategic improvement goals. Manages the intake mechanism for new projects and strategic improvement opportunities that align with enterprise strategy; integrate priority initiatives within the strategic and annual enterprise plan.

At least three (3) years of clinical and/or research experience Required and
