Registered Apprenticeships are structured, occupational training programs that allow employers to develop and prepare their future workforce, while providing individuals with a learn-while-you-earn approach to career development. Apprentices are paid employees who produce high-quality work while they learn skills that enhance their employer's needs. Apprenticeship programs include increases in wages for learning new skills or meeting identified benchmarks, related technical instruction, on-the job learning/training, mentorship, and result in a nationally recognized credential. Qualification and selection procedures for a Registered Apprenticeship are defined by a Registered Apprenticeship Program Sponsor in accordance with employer and industry needs/guidelines. The PA Apprenticeship and Training Office is responsible for promoting the expansion of apprenticeship programs across the Commonwealth, overseeing policy, and can assist in development and maintenance of Registered Apprenticeship Programs. Registration of programs are approved by the Pennsylvania Apprenticeship and Training Council.
