Description of Training Provider

Program Description

The course provides instruction in office technology, including basic computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The course also covers business professionalism and customer service skills including communications, problem solving & decision-making, conflict management, time management, business writing, service excellence and multi-generational workforce. In addition, the course provides instruction in workplace employability skills.
 
The course consists of 7-8 weeks of classroom and computer lab instructional hours (20-30 hours per week). Instruction may take place in person for 7 weeks or online for 8 weeks. Students will complete a capstone project summarizing learning gained during the training. Included in the training is the option to sit for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exams for Word and Excel. The in-person option currently takes place at the Bristol campus.
 

Skills & Competencies

Intro to Business Technology: Basic Computer Skills, hardware essentials, computer software, networking and the Internet, organizing information,  locating information, cloud storage.  Microsoft Outlook – key introductory skills: ribbon interface, navigation, email options, sending messages, attaching files, calendars.
 Microsoft Excel: Excel skills: entering, editing, formatting, working with cells, functions for dates, numbers, and text, financial functions, pivot tables. Preparation for MOS certification exam.
 Microsoft Word: Word skills: creating and saving documents, printing documents, creating tables, inserting shapes, styles, footnotes, comments, tracking changes, mail merge, envelopes and labels, formatting, comparing and securing documents, creating and running macros. Preparation for MOS certification exam.
 Microsoft PowerPoint: PowerPoint skills: creating a new presentation, adding and formatting, navigating a slide show, inserting images, adding transitions and animations.
Business Professionalism & Customer Service: Problem solving, decision making, time management, business writing, conflict management, communication, multigenerational workplace, 4 Precepts of Service Excellence
