Are you a Spanish-speaking person with a desire to help families find educational opportunities?

Our Migrant Education program is seeking an individual for a full-time position traveling through Hazleton, PA and surrounding areas working with our diverse migrant farm families. We are looking for a flexible person with experience in recruiting, interview techniques, social work or education and, where appropriate for the population, the ability to speak Spanish. This position is home based, but you must have the ability to travel to multiple work place locations.

This position is responsible for identifying and enrolling individuals and families that qualify for the Migrant Education Program (relevant training will be provided). This includes representing the Migrant Education Program to agribusinesses, school districts, and the community at large. This person will also be responsible for coordinating with other team members to ensure data accuracy and continuous service delivery.

Hourly wage: $ 18.00 – 19.75 depending on education and qualifications. Full-time position following a schedule of 7.5 hours a day, 37.5 hours a week for 260 days per annual program. Education and experience required include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, social work or communications is preferred, but not required. Will consider an Associate’s degree in sociology, social work or communications and minimum of three (3) years applicable work experience; or a High School Diploma/equivalent General Education Diploma (GED) and minimum of five (5) years applicable work experience.
  • Experience in interviewing techniques, social work or education is required.
  • When appropriate for the population, the ability to speak Spanish is required in some areas of the Northeast Migrant Education Program area. 
  • Clear verbal and written communication is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with people from a variety of professional, religious, national and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
  • Basic tech capability (Outlook, Google Suite, etc.).
  • Experience interviewing and/or administering questionnaires.
  • Additional language: preference for Spanish or Nepali.
  • Requires the ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships using tact and diplomacy and to remain calm in unpredictable situations.
